7 Excellent Plagiarism Checkers

No matter the kind of writing that you do, you’re likely to want to compare your text with anything else that exists on the internet or a paper or article that you’ve used as inspiration.

Plagiarism checkers can be real life saviors for bloggers and marketers, but also for students, teachers, or anyone working in any research field. That’s what makes using the best plagiarism checker so essential.

In this post, we’ll look at some recommendations in terms of the best plagiarism checker software. Keep on reading if you’d like to find out more!

Top plagiarism checker

Ideally, you should aim at a percentage of up to 5% just to be on the safe side of things and not risk search engines thinking that your content is copied from another website. Without further ado, here are some of the most effective copyright checkers today.

  1. Grammarly Premium

We already created a Grammarly plagiarism checker review, so we aren’t going to go into detail here. The free version of Grammarly doesn’t allow you to check your text for plagiarism, so you will have to get the paid version for the task.

It costs around $130 a year, and there are a variety of plans available for all budgets and for the time you need the app to work. Grammarly is effective and fast, and you can always reload the platform if you suspect that it’s not working properly.

Does Grammarly plagiarism checker work? Some do say that its reporting might not be as robust as that of other pieces of software. Something we noticed while using the app is that it doesn’t pick up on paraphrased content — just blatant plagiarism.

Naturally, one of the most important benefits you’ll get if you choose Grammarly is that you will also be able to edit your text effortlessly. Plus, the fact that the tool allows you to perform almost as many checks as you want for a set price is an advantage, as you’ll get to see in the following section.

  1. Copyscape

Copyscape is one of the oldest and most popular plagiarism checkers out there. You can find duplicate content by simply adding a URL into the platform. The interface could be improved significantly, however, since it is quite old.

The reason Copyscape remains critically acclaimed is that unlike so many other tools out there, it allows you to compare between two texts. This can be especially useful for people who want to create a variety of reviews and buying guides, for example, all of which need to be unique on the same site.

With this software, you pay for every check. If you produce a lot of content, this might not be so beneficial.

  1. Plagium

You can try Plagium for free before opting for a paid plan. The quick search feature allows you to perform simple checks, and it costs around 4 euro cents per page. The in-depth plagiarism checking feature will set you back by around 7 euro cents per page.

What’s nice about this tool is that it also lets you upload files and compare them between one another. It also has a Google Drive integration and a Google Docs Add-on that you can take advantage of. The file search feature costs around 5 euro cents per page.

Plagium is a pretty decent alternative for students and teachers who want to make sure that they haven’t accidentally plagiarized a research paper, for example.

  1. Quetext

Like some of the other choices that we have showcased here, Quetext has both a free and a paid version. The tool is particularly useful for scanning websites, books, as well as academic papers so as to find any duplicates. They give you the sources so that you can cite them as resources if you want to.

The pro plan starts at $9.99 with unlimited searches. As for the free plan, you should know that it is limited to just 3 searches with only 500 words per each search. By comparison, the Pro version lets you check as many as 25,000 words with just one search.

You can also check files (in a variety of formats).

  1. Unicheck

This plagiarism detection tool comes with a wide variety of features, but it does need a bit more details to check original content. Compared to some of the other pieces of software noted here, it requires you to log in before performing any check.

The nice thing about it is that it is compatible with up to 99% of file formats and bulk uploads. It also gives you access to some reports with the help of which you can revise your text so as not to trigger a copyright strike.

Like Plagium, this one comes with a Google add-on.

  1. ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid is a rather versatile tool that comes with several features that you might fail to find in an alternative. It’s suitable for a wide range of writing, and some say that it might just as well be the best plagiarism checker for research papers.

There is a free version available, and it allows you to check more than plagiarism — such as overused words, but also other aspects that might make your writing less satisfactory.

Since there are many options in the program, beginners might find this software a little challenging to use, at least at first. It is rather intuitive, however, so we’d say you should test it out, too.

  1. PlagScan

This one, too, is a paid copyright checker that offers a free trial if you aren’t sure whether to spend your hard-earned cash on it. You should sign up to be able to use it, but the signup process is easy and fast.

On top of that, it doesn’t even require a credit card for the trial period, so there is no risk involved. You get 20 free credits to check your text right away. 100 credits can set you back $12.

The neat thing about this plagiarism checker is that it is quite sensitive, being capable of picking up paraphrasing, as well as intentional plagiarism.

How does a plagiarism checker work?

Most plagiarism checkers rely on proprietary algorithms, so there isn’t a clear answer to this question. For instance, Unicheck has four main tools on which it relies — a text modification algorithm, a similarity detector algorithm, an authorship verification tool, as well as a referencing and citation checking algorithm.
