Sites Like Textbroker

Whether you are looking to hire a content writer or you are one already and you’re looking for more work, the fact is that Textbroker might not be the only option you have available.

Everyone’s heard about Upwork and other freelance writing websites, but in today’s article, we’re specifically looking at several sites like Textbroker that can help you do the same thing.

Freelance writing sites like Textbroker

Textbroker has a share of advantages and disadvantages. For example, it comes with a sizable client base, more than enough support resources, and freelancers can be paid weekly. They can also set their own schedules and work as little or as much as they want or can.

But the biggest drawback to using Textbroker is that the rates aren’t really worth writing home about. The standard (or the starting) rate is around $15 per 1,000 words, which if you live in the United States or the United Kingdom, you probably know that it’s not enough.

Also, another con of Textbroker is that the writers have to be based in the US. On the other hand, this could be an advantage for people looking for content as they know for sure that they are going to get well-written posts, at least from a grammar and spelling standpoint.

But it also means that heaps of excellent writers across the world, some of whom might actually want to work for $15 per 1,000 words of content (or less!), are not allowed on the platform.

Without further ado, here are some of the best sites like Textbroker.

Upwork

Upwork has to be the first of the Textbroker-like sites that we showcase here for the simple reason that it is completely safe for both parties (both the product owner and the writer).

Granted, you aren’t going to find the cheapest freelance writers here as the platform does charge a pretty hefty fee per project and per each hour worked through it. It does have a fair share of disadvantages, but the most notable one is the fact that it’s already used by hundreds of thousands of people out there.

This will make the task of finding the right freelancer or, on the other hand, getting projects pretty challenging. But as with any other such platform, you’ll first have to bid on low-priced projects to build a portfolio and only then manage to get bigger ones.

Freelancer.com

This platform is pretty easy to use by anyone, and the best thing about it is that setting up an account is completely free. However, like Upwork, it’s pretty crowded, so we suggest checking out the ‘Contests’ section to get yourself reviewed by clients and acquire more.

The site is extremely competitive, and there are already thousands of successful freelancers using it, which will make the task of standing out from the crowd quite difficult.

iWriter

If you are a writer who is based in a country other than the United States, iWriter might be right up your alley. They do accept freelancers from anywhere around the world, but they are said to prefer writers from North America, Australia, Europe, and South America.

While the fees for each article are slightly higher compared to those put in place by Textbroker, since you can get paid around $25 per 500-word posts, it does come with a serious disadvantage.

They charge up to 35% of the value of each article, which means that if you get paid $25, you will, in fact receive just $16.25.

As for payments, they are processed each Tuesday through Paypal.

People per Hour

PPH is a fairly good website for freelancers as they can set their own prices. There’s no condition in terms of the location you have to be based in, so that’s worth taking into account.

Another reason to consider People per Hour is that the payments can be processed through PayPal, Payoneer, or bank accounts, and it takes just 1 to 3 days for you to receive the money (for bank transfers).

How much does PPH charge? Well, it depends, and their fee can vary from 3.5% to 20% depending on how much you’ve earned with a specific customer — their fee plan somewhat resembles that of Upwork, which we have already described in this selection.

Fiverr

You might think that Fiverr isn’t really the best place to go to and market your writing services or, by contrast, look for content writers. But the truth is that it really depends on your selection process and the way you decide to showcase your services.

Of course, standing out on Fiverr can be quite challenging as it is already packed with lots of offers from other writers across the world. On the other hand, Fiverr is quite comprehensive and easy to use, but building a reputation might take time and a bit of effort.

Verblio

If you are looking to hire a writer strictly from the United States (to be more specific, one that holds US citizenship), Verblio might be a suitable alternative to Textbroker.

The minimum payments start at $10 for 300 to 400-word articles, and they are processed through Paypal each Monday. There’s not too much to say about this platform besides that it offers most of the basic features of other content writing websites out there.

Writer Access

This one is the perfect choice for freelancers who do not want to work for cheap — since the fees are slightly higher, those looking for writers will also have access to a database of better writers.

Based on the information that we found about Writer Access, the quality of the articles is really top-notch, which makes it the place to go to if you want excellent content. Freelancers are allowed to set their own prices.

The application process is a bit challenging in that you will have to provide your education and industry experience, a complete resume, as well as several links to posts you have written in the past (preferably signed with your own name).

WritersDomain

If you want to make some side income and you don’t have the time to write long and detailed articles that can be as long as 3,000 or even 4,000 words, Writers Domain is the best platform to consider. They strictly focus on articles with a length of 600 to 800 words, but long-form content is, of course possible, too.

The writers do have to be from countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, though, so they have to be native English speakers.

As for the standard price for each post, it can vary from $12 to $40. Compared to other platforms, you can’t automatically be approved – you have to register, send out one or several samples, and then wait for someone to approve your application.

BKA Content

This is another site that allows people to hire content writers from the United States of America. The payments can range from $.013 to $.05 per word, and they are processed through Paypal every two weeks. As for the hourly fee, it tends to range from $8 to $14.

The application process is rather interesting as it requires freelancers to pass a 20-minute test — which means that only good English writers can be approved. You have to have a score of at least 80% to use BKA content.

Constant Content

Although it might not be as well-known as Upwork or even Textbroker, Constant Content is probably the best place to go to if you want to get decent rates. Some of their clients vary depending on the industry, but just to give you a clue as to how successful they are, we’ll tell you that they’ve worked with large companies such as Home Depot in the past.

Anyone can go through the application process regardless of their location or citizenship. You merely have to fill out a form, take a quiz, and produce a sample to be approved. We’d also like to add that some of the most successful writers that work with Constant Content can make over $80K a year.

Crowd Content

If you want to hire a better writer than what you’d be able to find on Textbroker, you might want to consider Crowd Content. The fees aren’t going to be as high as those from Constant Content, for example, but they do pay better compared to Textbroker.

However, they only accept writers from countries such as New Zealand, the US, UK, Canada, or South Africa (and several more such as France or Austria), so only a limited number of people can join the platform.

Creating an account is very easy, and you merely have to answer a set of questions and you’ll be able to bid on new projects.

Zerys

On Zerys, the pay rate depends on the ones you prefer and the ones that your client sets. From what we gathered, the application process is pretty easy, but you do have to take a test that can last for 20 to 40 minutes and include a writing sample, whether by uploading a document or giving them a link to a post you’ve published on another site in the past.

Discovering writing jobs on this platform is somewhat unique in that you can look for them yourself on a board, get direct assignments from previous clients, or the client can select you from a board that they’ve put together based on their preferences and a number of favorite writers they might have worked with in the past.

Words of Worth

This platform is slightly different from what you might be used to if you’ve worked on Upwork or Textbroker before. Words of Worth actually needs their writers to be available for a minimum number of hours each week, so you can’t have a fully flexible schedule.

We couldn’t find any specific information on their fees or the money you can get for a 500 or 1,000-word article, so you will have to do all that research yourself. Applying for Words of Worth is done only by writing a trial article.

Contently

If you truly want the best content for your website, Contently is the best website to consider. They have a really extensive application process where freelancers have to take tests and share examples of their previous articles, and they only work with a few select writers.

If you have a brand and you need excellent articles whether for your site’s pages or blog posts, Contently is definitely the solution to all of your problems — they’ve worked with some of the biggest companies in the past, and they have an outstanding reputation. They do pay their writers fairly, and so the articles are not going to be cheap.

Skyword

Skyword is also quite interesting as you can pretty much write any article you want and then put it up for sale. This makes the task of researching your favorite topics a lot easier since you can basically write about whatever you like.

Customers can merely browse through a number of pre-written articles and buy them. If a client discovers you through an article they like, they can put an order so that you can begin working with them on a regular basis.

As for the earnings, the lowest rate you’ll get is $0.01 per word. When it comes to applying for Skyword, you simply have to complete an application form and then wait for a representative to approve you.

Finding the best sites like Textbroker

There are several factors to consider if you’re a freelancer writer that wants to try an alternative to Textbroker. First off, if you are based in any other country than the United States, you’re simply forced to join another platform.

Some other things to consider would have to be your rate — and excellent writers aren’t usually willing to work for peanuts –, how competitive that platform is, and whether you can build a profile and bid on projects without paying for anything.

To give you an example, on Upwork you get a number of points per month and you can use those for bids — depending on the value of the project or the amount of money that the client has spent in the past, the number of points you’ll have to spend might be higher. You can also purchase these so-called ‘connects’ — 10 of them cost $1.79 (including VAT).
