If you’ve been searching for new ways to monetize your content and you’re fairly sure that a password manager recommendation might be right up your audience’s alley, you’ve come to the right place.
For today’s article, we’re doing a review of the 1Password affiliate program, one of the most convenient and easy-to-use password managers out there. We’ll go into everything you should know before becoming a 1Password affiliate, such as how much you can expect to earn, how you can join, how often the brand pays you, and more.

What is 1Password?
As you may have been able to tell by now, 1Password is a password manager that people can use to store their passwords and even have the app suggest strong ones to them.
There are several plans available that we will describe in the next section, but you should know that there’s also a free version available for mobile devices and others.
Nowadays, the free trial is only 14 days long, but back in the day, you could download the app and have it on your phone forever, without having to pay a single cent so long as the number of stored passwords wasn’t through the roof.
What services can you promote to your audience?
Before even considering becoming a 1Password affiliate, you should take some time to do a little research on what you need to recommend to your blog or website users.
For example, if you were to write a review of the service, you’d have to also go into some details regarding the plans that exist and what features they come with.
There are effectively two versions of the main product depending on the ideal buyer persona. The Personal & Family option is available in the form of two plans, one that’s priced at just $2.99 per month when billed annually and the other that costs $4.99 per month for up to five families.
Some of the main differences between these two plans consist of sharing features and management of whatever other family members can do or see, as well as the ability to recover accounts for those that have been lost or to which the password has been forgotten — these additional ones come included in the higher plan.
There’s also the possibility for someone who was the 1Password Families plan to invite up to five other guests even if they are not part of the same family, of course.
As for the Team and Business solution, there are three main plans available in this category. We can’t really go into a lot of detail regarding the Enterprise one and the reason for that is that the price is customized depending on every business’ needs. But some of the extra features included in this one range from an onboarding engineer to a dedicated account manager.
The Teams Starter Pack, the most affordable one of all, is billed at $19.95 per month and can also be tried for free for a period of up to fourteen days. The business one costs just $7.99 per month by comparison.
But what is the difference between these two? Well, the Business one comes with up to 5GB document storage per individual user whereas the 1Password Teams option includes only 1GB. The bigger plan also includes a variety of additional features such as reports, monitoring for security breaches, usage reports, and much more.
Needless to say, these higher plans speak to the needs of users who are either working for large companies and want to make sure that their data is entirely protected or actual startup owners and managers.
Joining the 1Password referral program
The company does have an official page for their program on the site, so we suggest that you first give it a read before making your final decision.
But the main idea is that compared to many of the other affiliate programs that we have looked at in the past, this one does offer you the opportunity to handle everything through a separate network.
CJ Affiliate seems to be the one of choice for the 1Password brand since they’re including the link to their program through that platform on their own site. Once you create a CJ Affiliate account, you can search for the program and apply there.
It doesn’t take that long to get your reply as to whether your application is approved or denied from what we’ve gathered by going through the reviews that other marketers have done on this program.
It definitely wouldn’t hurt if you were able to provide some analytics as to how much organic traffic you are getting and the exact ways in which you plan on promoting 1Password to your readership. Large influencers or publishers have a much better chance at being accepted into the program with as little effort as possible.
Finally, if your niche is tech or something related to it, whether you write about marketing software or anything else, you also have a better likelihood of being accepted into the program faster. Once you’re all set up, you will receive your 1password referral code that you can use to promote the services.
How much can you make with your 1Password affiliate link?
The commission rate is perhaps the most important factor when it comes to joining any affiliate program. So, what’s in it for you if you were to become a 1Password affiliate?
Well, every time someone signs up for an account, you get paid a rate of just $2. That definitely does not sound like a lot, but the truth is that you also get paid a commission of 25% of whatever they are paying for their subscription, whether that is a monthly or a yearly plan.
Moreover, this is a recurring rate for the first year of your referrals’ subscription, so you have the chance to make a form of passive income.
When it comes to the actual cookie duration, we have to admit that we found some fairly conflicting information on this. Some sources suggest that it’s just 30 days whereas others talk about a 45-day tracking cookie period.
There is a payment threshold in place, too, and it’s $50. This is somewhat acceptable given that many of the other programs we’ve talked about in the past have thresholds like $100 or more (the limit of others even goes up to $300, which can be very difficult for some affiliates).
Since you’ll be using CJ Affiliate to join the program, the payment methods that are now available there range from cheque to direct deposit. You can also withdraw your money through Payoneer if you’re not based in the United States and can’t get the cheque.

Pros and cons to being a 1Password affiliate
As is the case with pretty much any program you may be interested in joining at one point in your affiliate marketing journey, there are both advantages and disadvantages that need to be considered.
Are you going to get rich promoting 1Password as a single product on your website or social page? Probably not. The minimum $2 commission is, however, available even for leads, so even if someone gets the 14-day trial, you’ll still be paid something.
The largest earnings that you can expect by recommending these services are for situations where one of your referrals gets the Family plan or one of the two designed for teams or businesses.
So, while the commission could have been better, at least you’ll get 25% per sale for a period of one year. Also, the fact that this one works through CJ Affiliate is another positive since this is one of the largest and most trustworthy networks at this time — so in case you run into a problem, you’ll likely have someone to talk to about it.

1Password Affiliate Program Alternatives
If for any reason, you might find that the 1Password affiliate program isn’t the right fit for you, here are some other options that you may want to consider — and they are all in the same niche and sell similar products.
LastPass
This one is by far the most popular extension and app that people use to manage a sleuth of their passwords. There is a free version available, but it only allows use on a single device — so you can either store your passwords on your laptop or a mobile phone or tablet, for example.
As for their affiliate program, they pay you a 25% rate for any of the paid plans that your referrals get after clicking on your affiliate link. The nice thing about this one is that the cookie lasts for 45 days, so it’s a little longer than what you can expect with others.
Also, the LastPass affiliate program works through Impact Radius, a separate affiliate network — where you can easily check all of your stats and conversions even when you’ve joined hundreds of programs.
RoboForm
The RoboForm affiliate program is self-managed, so you aren’t going to encounter it on any other separate network. We like it because it offers 30% revenue on all sales made through your affiliate links, mainly the personal subscriptions.
However, there are some pretty clear requirements if you do not want to get booted out of the program, such as the fact that you can’t even promote your landing page through PPC. The minimum payout threshold is $30 for PayPal and $50 for USD cheques (obviously available strictly in the United States).

Dashlane
There are both good things and bad things when it comes to this one — the good one is the 25% rate that you can expect on all sales. The bad one is the 1-day cookie duration, which we’ve seen only in less popular affiliate programs right now, such as Amazon Associates.
Whether this is a disadvantage or an advantage for you, we’d also like to note that all of the monthly plans you’ll find on Dashlane are affordable and start at just $2, so your audience might be less reluctant in terms of trying any of them.
Locker.io
This is one of the best alternatives that we were able to track down, and the reason we’re saying this is that the commission rate for the first month of usage for any new referral you send out their way is 50%.
But wait, there’s more. For every other additional subscription that your referrals get, you will still be paid a 10% rate. If someone from your audience decides to get the subscription for the whole year after clicking on your Locker.io affiliate link, you’ll be paid a 35% rate.
Perhaps the only downside that we came across while researching this one is the fact that you have to join on the company’s own website — there’s no other way of going about things.

Keeper Security
The Keeper Security affiliate program works through Rakuten, another network that we’ve written about and mentioned in many of our previous articles. The application form that you need to fill out is very straightforward and you’ll get your reply in less than one week’s time.
Once you’re approved, you can make a minimum of 10% on all of the purchases made through your Keeper Security affiliate links. Even when someone wants to just try the service and they get the free trial, you’ll be paid $5.
Enpass
This one is managed by the Impact Radius affiliate network, one that we have reviewed in detail in the past (if you’re interested, feel free to use the search function on the blog to give it a read).
Joining the program is made easy thanks to the Impact platform, but that’s not the only reason to consider becoming an Enpass affiliate. You get paid a 30% commission rate on every purchase made through your affiliate links, which is more than decent.
To make things better, you get paid every single month with this program, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Also, there are all sorts of seasonal discounts and promotions in place that can assist you in improving your conversions.
