Squarespace Affiliate Program Review

What is Squarespace?

There truly isn’t a single word that can describe what Squarespace does. Almost anyone that has heard of Squarespace before knows that the website builder is the primary selling point, but there are other features to be had with all sorts of subscriptions, such as marketing tools, templates, eCommerce integrations, and more.

Before we move on to the rest of the article, we would like to note that perhaps the biggest drawback when it comes to Squarespace is that, like other separate web builders, it is not compatible with plugins made specifically for WordPress websites.

And since most websites out there actually run on WordPress, this can be a significant disadvantage — especially if your referrals are interested in getting traffic through traditional organic search, meaning SEO.

What services can you recommend to your audience?

Like some of the other companies in the same industry that we have looked at before, this one has several plans available and they include a range of perks depending on how much they cost.

The most basic plan is priced (at the time we are writing this piece) $16 per month with a discount of 30% when paid annually. The next one, also known as the Business plan, costs $23 per month and includes several extra things, such as premium integrations and blocks, a professional email, as well as promotional pop-ups and banners.

The Commerce plan is priced at $27 per month and comes with the same features already included in the first two we have mentioned and several extra ones, such as customer accounts, product reviews, merchandising tools, e-commerce analytics, and more.

Finally, the Advanced Commerce plan is the most expensive one now available on Squarespace and is billed at $49 per month with a 25% discount for annual subscriptions. It has heaps of features and includes interesting ones such as abandoned cart recovery, advanced discounts, commerce APIs, and more.

The good thing is that there is a 14-day free trial available, so your referrals can actually test out the product before deciding whether it makes sense for them to get a paid plan.

To make things even better, you do not even need to add any card details when getting the free trial, so that will make things a lot easier for you as an affiliate.

Joining the affiliate program for Squarespace

What sets this program aside from some of the others we have looked at in the past year or so is the fact that it has an acceptance rate of just 5%.

Even though one of the biggest pros is that you do not have to join on the company website and you can use Impact Radius for this, there will be an affiliate manager from the company analyzing your application.

On the other hand, if you do not already own an Impact Radius account, you will have to go through the entire process, get verified and everything else that you can expect in this sense.

Once you’re done with the entire application process (and we strongly advise you to provide all the information as clearly and as transparently as possible), you will get everything you need, from your Squarespace affiliate links to your Squarespace affiliate tracking.

There are plenty of creative resources available that you may want to try out so as to increase your performance as time goes by.

What we would like to note about the program at the end of this section is that while it does allow anyone, regardless of their location, to join, you will be strictly paid in US dollars.

Furthermore, if Peach or Impact Radius are not available in the country you are based in, you will not be able to become a Squarespace affiliate or use any of the programs available on these platforms, for that matter.

Squarespace affiliate program commission

First of all, it doesn’t cost a single thing to use Squarespace for your affiliate marketing journey. The networks that the brand works with don’t charge anything for new accounts, either, which is a good thing — we’ve seen this with ShareASale, by the way, which is something that other programs rely on for their management.

The downside is that we couldn’t find any specific information on the commission rates that you can expect with this one. Every resource that we came across suggests that you can make up to $200 per referral, but as you can imagine, that all depends on your traffic and conversions and even the niche you’re in.

On the upside, the cookie does last for 45 days, which means that it is slightly longer than what the 30-day industry standard is these days.

The commission is also non-recurring, which can be a bit of a drawback for some marketers, who may be used to receiving at least a bit of money every month when their referrals receive their subscription.

Payment methods and thresholds

Given that Squarespace works with Impact for managing everything related to their affiliates, probably the best thing about this is that the payment threshold is only $10.

You can opt for any of the following payment methods:

  • PayPal
  • Bank account transfers

Even though you will be paid in USD, you can receive your earnings right in your local bank account, whether it’s in EUR, GBP, or other currencies.

Pros and cons to Squarespace affiliate marketing

As you can imagine, every affiliate program in the world comes with advantages and disadvantages. It is therefore important to jot them down and see whether it makes sense for you to become a Squarespace affiliate even before creating an application.

Benefits

Although the brand isn’t exactly transparent when it comes to estimating the earnings of their affiliates on their websites, it seems that the minimum commission that you can expect for yearly plans is $100. It can go up to $200 depending on the subscriptions that your referrals opt for and also depending on your performance.

The 45-day tracking cookie can be considered another pro, especially since many other affiliate programs have lower ones (to give you an example, Udemy, although not in the same niche, has a 7-day cookie; Amazon Associates relies on a 24-hour cookie).

In case you run into any sort of problem, you can rest assured that you will receive the support you need from the Squarespace affiliate management team. The 5% acceptance rate is helpful for them in this sense because they have people that can assist you throughout your journey.

Additionally, Squarespace has been around for nearly 20 years now, and during that time, they have amassed a truly impressive number of users (estimates suggest $1 million people or more).

Consequently, you are not going to have that much of a hard time recommending Squarespace services to your audience.

Finally, the fact that Squarespace does not use its own platform for managing everything is another pro. Impact works smoothly and their tracking software is extremely easy to understand.

Drawbacks

We’d say that one of the first cons that we encountered is the fact that even if an affiliate page does exist on the Squarespace official website, it’s not really detailed. You will not get a lot of info from it — whether that be the cookie duration, the commission rate, or how you can get paid.

The low acceptance rate is another drawback, and while we do understand that the brand needs to separate the wheat from the chaff to be able to manage their affiliates properly, it can be daunting to understand why you got your application rejected in the first place.

Despite the fact that the 45-day commission is better than what other companies have to offer, if you check out the next section about alternatives to the Squarespace affiliate program, you’ll realize that not only are other brands giving you recurring commissions, but their cookies can also last forever.

In the end, even though it is without a doubt a reputable company and their services are top-notch (the web builder is extremely easy to use and requires no coding experience whatsoever), it’s not WordPress.

Therefore, some of your readers who are already acquainted with WP websites and who know how many things they can do with them may be less inclined to try a separate web builder that doesn’t integrate with the same good old plugins.

If you’ve tried to create sites with web builders that aren’t WP-based before, you may know that it can be very challenging to handle all the SEO part, at least from an organic traffic standpoint.

What if becoming a Squarespace affiliate is not an option for you?

Weebly

There are both advantages and disadvantages if you want to try the Weebly affiliate program. For example, you can use ShareASale and the account that you probably already have on this network if you are a seasoned affiliate.

The cost of the plans tends to differ a lot in terms of the features that potential users may be interested in. In any case, you can make 30% out of every purchase made through your Weebly affiliate links. Another good thing about this one is that the cookie lasts for 120 days, so much more than what other brands can offer.

Wix

We might have mentioned Wix before in some of our previous posts if not for any other reason besides the fact that it can be somewhat difficult to integrate with plugins.

#image_title

However, if you do manage to convince part of your readers to build portfolios or actual websites with the Wix builder, you can earn up to $100 per each referral. The cookie lasts for 30 days, so there’s really no surprise there.

HostGator

In the past, HostGator used to heavily rely on web hosting services for all sorts of websites, but these days, the company actually has a very nifty website builder that anyone can give a shot to.

The affiliate program is a little different in that it doesn’t pay you a percentage of the annual subscriptions that your readers may choose from the ones being offered by the brand. Instead, you will be paid a flat commission depending on the number of referrals you get every month, with the minimum one being $65.

The cookie lasts for two months, which isn’t bad considering that the one that most other HostGator competitors have in place is 30 days.

Builderall

This one is a little more complex in the sense that it can be used for a variety of tasks, not just building a website. They also have an app builder, all sorts of features for email marketing automation, as well as a DNS manager.

Moreover, Builderall integrates with most of the other apps out there, including those designed specifically for eCommerce. As an affiliate, you will get paid a 100% commission for the first month of your referrals’ subscription and then a 30% recurring one each time they renew it.

Webnode

Although perhaps less well-known compared to the other website builders that we have mentioned before, Webnode actually has a pretty decent program. Besides paying you up to $100 on the first premium plan purchase, as a Webnode affiliate, you will be able to enjoy a lifetime cookie.

This is one of the highest earning affiliate programs we have encountered in this particular niche, so you may want to look into it if you have some time on your hands.
